WENCHI MCE TOUTS DEVELOPMENTAL ACHIEVEMENTS AT 2020 MEET THE PRESS

The Socio-economic developments and transformational gains and achievements of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government in the three and half years under the local political leadership of the Member of Parliament Professor George Gyan-Baffour and the Municipal Chief Executive Dr. Prince Kwakye Afriyie, have come into accounts through a Meet-The-Press Series.
The Meet-The-Press Series is a programme designed and spearheaded by the Ministry of Information/Information Services Department (MOI/ISD) in collaboration with the Wenchi Municipal Assembly aimed at highlighting the achievements of government as a form of accounting to the people. It is an interactive platform that provides opportunity for the citizenry to ask questions and also express their views on developmental issues of general concern.
In a live Radio broadcast, the Municipal Chief Executive Dr. Prince Kwakye Afriyie on behalf of government and the MP, catalogued the development projects and other gains made in the sectors of Education, Health, Agriculture, Electricity, Roads, Water, Sports and other Special Initiatives/Social Intervention programmes as well as Future Projects beginning 2021.
 
On COVID 19, the Chief Executive began his presentation with summary report on measures/activities undertaken during the novel Coronavirus pandemic; Distribution of Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs), the changing local market trends, Public Sensitization, Health and Security measures, amongst others.
 
In Education, Free SHS Policy, 380 Scholarship beneficiaries including 32 Physically Challenged Persons, classrooms/school blocks with auxiliary facilities constructed, others at various stages of completion, expansion and retargeting of the School Feeding Programme to cover 41 more schools now, Children’s Library with ICT, Double Track Boys Dormitory for Wenchi Methodist SHS, ICT Lab for ASWAQ Cluster of schools, supply of 19 Royal Branded Motor Bikes to GES, construction of Male and Female 12 Seater WC toilet with mechanized boreholes and overhead Tank for Istiqaama SHS at Nkonsia, KG Complex and 6-unit classroom block, Offices, Stores, 6 Seater WC Toilet, pantry and kitchen for Model Cluster of schools. The rests are 6-unit classroom with auxiliary facilities at Imam Seidu Basic School, 6-unit classroom block for Amponsakrom M/A School, 3-unit classroom block at Wurompo, 3-unit classroom block at Model ‘C’ School, 3-unit pavilion classroom at Akrobi Methodist Primary, 3-unit pavilion classroom at Akrobi St Francis R/C School, 4-unit pavilion classroom at Buoku Methodist School, 6-unit pavilion classroom at Buoku M/A School, 3-unit pavilion classroom at Asuano Salvation Army Primary, 3-unit classroom at Alhaji Benneh JHS, supply of almost 2, 000 Dual Desks for schools.
 
In the area of Health, Nchiraa, Subinso and Tromeso health facilities have been upgraded to Poly-Clinic status with newly built Theatres and Labour Wards, construction of more CHPS compounds at Branam, Agubie, Nwoase, Mini Theatre at St Joseph Clinic at Koase, Ambulances to Tromeso and Subinso Health Centres. Renovation of Municipal Health Directorate. Introduction of Tele-Medicine Concept.
 
Roads were also highlighted, rehabilitation of Wenchi town roads, creation of access routes, Akonkontiwa, Viglosam, Banda Line, Kaamu, Wanoma, Boadan, Jensoso, Zongo, Nwoase, Ahenfie, Asampu road, Wenchi SHS campus roads. Opening up and reshaping selected roads, Nchiraa-Nwoase, desilting chocked drains, Kootwumkrom Nkwanta, Golf Bridges, Slab works.
 
In the Agriculture  sector, Planting for Food and Jobs, Rearing for Food and Jobs, Planting for Export and Rural Development, One District One Ware House, Youth in Afforestation, Free distribution of 100, 000 Cashew Seedlings to farmers.
 
Energy/Rural Electrification, 600 LED Street Bulbs installed, 4, 000 poles for 16 communities and still counting, Asuofiri, Abotareye electrification project.
Some Special Initiatives such as One Million Per Constituency Projects were also accounted for; 22 projects such as Schools, Durbar Grounds, Toilet facilities, drilled and mechanized boreholes in various communities across the Municipality.
 
Water & Sanitation, 32 boreholes drilled, 50 boreholes rehabilitated, procurement of functional pumps in 2017 for water supply, further provision and extension of water to various suburbs and public places including market centres. Evacuation of waste heaps/dumping sites.
 
Sports, construction of CAF Standard Football pitch/Sports stadium with semi-automated irrigation system.
To good governance, Magistrate Court, DVLA Office have been constructed, High Court renovated, Nation Builders Corps (NABCO), Street Naming Property Addressing System.
 
The Municipal Chief Executive disclosed future projects which include 30 Million Euros Water System Project for Wenchi Municipality, Ultra Modern Market Complex, Multi purpose Social Centre, Traffic Light Project, Drainage & Storm Drains, Branam Agric City Project.
Dr. Prince Kwakye Afriyie dispelled assertions that some projects started by the erstwhile NDC administration were abandoned. He further challenged opposition to point at least one road project initiated and completed in Wenchi under their government. He further appealed to the voting public to renew the mandate of the NPP government and the MP Prof Gyan-Baffour, come December 7, to do more.
