The Wenchi Municipal Assembly has led the people of the municipality to embark on tree planting exercise under the government’s Green Ghana Project.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The Green Ghana Project is an initiative of Government of Ghana that seeks to mobilize all stakeholders and the general public to undertake massive tree planting exercise to reduce deforestation and land degradation to combat climate change. As part of implementation of this year’s project under the theme “Mobilizing for a Greener Future”, the Assembly targeted to plant and grow 10, 000 diverse species of trees for Timber, Ornamentals\/Beautification, Shade, Fruits and other multi purposes for this year 2022. Free distribution of the seedlings to the public began from Friday 10th June 2022 after the launch.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Addressing stakeholders at the launch of the project, the Municipal Chief Executive Alexander Obour Damoah called on all to get involved in the exercise to achieve the expected results. He added that the free distribution of the seedlings by government was to motivate the public to plant, grow and own a tree, aimed at building a healthy environment for all.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Forestry Officer for Wenchi Division Samuel Ameyaw said forestry team was readily available and accessible for any technical assistance to ensure good standard practice.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Places earmarked for the planting included principal streets, Churches, Mosques, farmlands, community dedicated lands, forest reserves, Institutions, Schools, etc.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
There was symbolic planting in various capacities; the MCE planted on behalf of the Government and the people of Wenchi, the Traditional Council planted on behalf the traditional authorities, the Local Council of Churches planted on behalf of the Christian community, the Muslim Council planted on behalf of the Muslim community and a host of others.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
