The Municipal Public Health Emergency Management Committee (MPHEMC) of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly has held a meeting with the Traditional Council.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The meeting was part of the stakeholders engagements and forums to sensitize stakeholders on the rate of spread of the Coronavirus and ways of curbing the menace.<\/div>\n
It was also to solicit the support and cooperation of the traditional authorities, as always, to collaboratively roll out planned activities including sensitisation and enforcement aimed at reducing the rate of infection and related deaths.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Municipal Director for Health Services Robbert Kwaku Bio explained the new coronavirus delta variant and its health dynamics with alarming negative impact on the Municipality. He noted that the Delta Variant was much faster and hard hitting than covid -19 experienced in 2020. As at 30th July, 2021, 130 positive cases were recorded from 650 samples with 7 deaths. Others had been admitted to the Treatment Center for medical attention. The Assembly called on the traditional authorities to help the Assembly fight the alarming rise in cases and deaths continually recorded.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Municipal Officer for Environmental Health & Sanitation Ms Gertrude Lanseni took turn to explain how COVID related deaths (bodies) are handled for burial. She cautioned families against interference with duties of Environmental Health Officers in handling COVID bodies for burial, to avoid further spread and deaths, indicating that there are strict protocols as proper and standard practice for disposal of covid infected bodies.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Municipal Information Officer Stanick Sofel Amuzu Kpodo outlined the activity strategies adopted by the Assembly to carry out sensitisation campaign to reach out to the public, with the use of the Information Van, NCCE, Radio Stations and Community Information Centres. Community durbars, street announcements, Churches and Mosques visitations, meeting with social groups, amongst others.<\/div>\n

On their part, the chiefs called on the public to take covid vaccination seriously. The Council gave approval and backing to the strategies outlined and charged the Assembly to crack the whip on recalcitrants who would flout protocols. The Acting President and Baamuhene of the Traditional Council Nana Adinkra Asimpi Tabiri Kosopre III, pledged their unflinching support and commitment to fighting the disease. The Council, called for intensive public education on the protocols, particularly, wearing of Face Masks and Physical\/Social distancing.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
