The Management of Wenchi Municipal Assembly has held stakeholders meeting with the affected traders of another upcoming Lockable Market Stores at the Entry Point of the Old Station. The meeting was one of the series of Stakeholders Engagements held to discuss and finalise relocation arrangements of the project affected persons and concerned traders who have been identified to be directly affected by construction of the Project. The meeting followed exchange of some earlier proposals made to Management by the traders where Management resolved to finalise discussions in the subsequent meeting.
The main objective of the engagement was to fast track relocation processes to make way for the Project long overdue as the traders were expected to have moved by end of January 2024 for construction of the Project to have begun February, 2024 as discussed in the earlier meetings.
Addressing Stakeholders and the affected traders, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Alexander Obour Damoah who chaired the meeting expressed concern and deep worry about the seeming delay of executing the Project due to the failure of the affected traders to relocate, warning against the financial cost implications. He explained that in order to avoid congestion and aggravated inconveniences posed to traders, the Project would be executed in phases where some of the occupants of the existing old blocks would relocate to give way for construction of Phase One of the Project. The second phase takes off immediately after successful completion of Phase One. The next batch of the affected traders would relocate to pave way for the next phase. In all these arrangements, the affected traders, however, have the option to relocate to any place of their choice where they would enjoy free Temporal Permit Certification to be issued by the Assembly.
The Facility is a 98 – Room Lockable Market Store Project which include construction of drains, channels and washroom facilities with 8-months duration of execution. The Project under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement between the Wenchi Municipal Assembly and Private Developers/Investors. The Project forms part of the MCE’s Local Economic Development initiatives to develop and expand business operations and create the enabling environment for business owners and operators to thrive in order to create more jobs, promote and ensure sustainable economic growth and development of our local businesses.
