WMA TAKES DELIVERY OF DRIP MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT

The Wenchi Municipal Assembly (WMA) has received road construction machines and equipment under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) 2024.
The District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) is an initiative of the Government of Ghana to amongst other purposes equip and empower all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana including the Wenchi Municipal Assembly with earth-moving equipment and the needed machinery tools to address road maintenance challenges to enhance road infrastructural networks in the Assembly’s jurisdictions. The Machines and Equipment which came in a full package namely One (1) Tipper Truck, One (1) Backhoe, One (1) Payloader, One (1) Water Tank Truck, One (1) Roller, One (1) Caterpillar, two (2) Concrete Mixers for the Wenchi Municipal Assembly.
Speaking on the sideline of a colourful Commissioning Ceremony to showcase the equipment to start work, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Alexander Obour Damoah commended the President of the Republic His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Vice President His Excellency Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia for the initiative. The MCE stressed the critical role of the equipment and timely deployment of the equipment to begin work on roads in the Municipality as immediately as possible.
The receipt of the equipment followed the official launch of the programme and commission of the equipment held at the Black Star Square in Accra on 31st July 2024 under the coveted theme “Transforming Ghana’s Roads” by the President of the Republic H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for distribution to the Assemblies to use.
The District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) aims to; actualize the vision for enhanced connectivity to foster sustainable roads connectivity and economic growth. Empower Local Authorities by providing MMDAs with state-of-the-art equipment and technical training thereby building and enhancing their capacity for road maintenance and construction. Equipping local authorities with these essential logistics to ensure timely efficient completion of road projects to facilitate access to essential services, markets and economic opportunities.
On Job Creation, the Programme aims to create 4,480 direct jobs. These include Operators, Mechanics, Managers and Assistants with extensive training in Mechanical Engineering, Hydraulic Systems, Electronic Systems, Diagnosis in skilled workforce capable of maintaining and operating the new equipment.
The Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization & Rural Development (MLGDRD) with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in collaboration with a leading provider of high-quality machinery and equipment and expertise J.A. Plantpool Ghana Limited to manage the affairs of the DRIP Project.
