ASSEMBLY HOLDS STAKEHOLDERS MEETING WITH INFORMATION CENTRE OPERATORS

The Wenchi Municipal Assembly has held Stakeholders meeting with Owners and Operators of Community Information Centres (CICs) in the Municipality.
The meeting formed part of the Assembly’s Public Engagements to interact with key stakeholders on policy initiatives, programmes and projects of the Assembly and implementation of same for the benefit and development of all persons. The meeting also enhanced and deepen the existing bilateral relation between the Assembly and Owners as key development Partners. The meeting aimed to highlight and update the Information Centres on newly completed and ongoing developmental projects and programmes worthed public notice. It was also to identify their challenges and how best to address them.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Alexander Obour Damoah who opened the discussions appreciated the existing collaboration and the important supportive roles the Information Centres play in Public Education through continuous daily announcements in their operational areas and communities.
The Municipal Information Officer and Director of the Information Services Department (ISD) Wenchi took the participants through the Manual of Rules and Regulations governing the Establishment and Operations of Community Information Centres (CICs) in the Municipality. He admonished them to strictly adhere to the Regulations to avoid the penalties therein. He also advised them to register and renew their License regularly as required by Law. There are currently over thirty (30) Community Information Centres (CICs) active and operational in the Wenchi Municipality.
The Owners and Operators of the Information Centres expressed the following concerns and appeals;
They appealed to the Assembly to reverse the yearly increment of Registration and Renewal Fees asking for at least 5 years stable rate.
They complained about interference from sometimes Community Leaders and a few individuals who wanted to drag their operations into their personal interest. They pledged their continuous unwavering commitment to support Information Services Department of the Assembly to carry out public education on all government initiatives.
