The Astroturf Sports Facility Project at the Methodist Basic School in Wenchi has been completed and commissioned for use.The Project was part of government’s initiative to augment the existing Sports Field/Stadium and enhance Sporting activities in the Municipality.
In his remarks to open the Facility to the public for use, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Alexander Obour Damoah lauded the initiative as a motivation to the Sports fraternity and and Football lovers. He noted that the Project demonstrated government’s commitment to the development of sports to nurture football talent among the youth to the likes of Asamoah Gyan, Baffour Gyan, and Afena Gyan.
The Pitch is a standard field with state-of-the-art facilities including electricity powered footlights that enables day and night all time play. A football match was held on the day of the commissioning as part of activities to open the Facility. Today, the Facility continues to serve its purpose of hosting all grassroot football matches and Community games for the general good and benefit of the people.
The public including Sports fanatics welcomed the Project and lauded government for turning the long time muddy and dusty ground into an exclusive standard attractive Sports Facility.
