The Business Advisory Centre of the Ghana Enterprises Agency (BAC/GEA) has sensitized Small and Medium Enterprise owners and operators on the development and registration of their businesses in the Wenchi Municipality.
The sensitization programme was among other purposes equip the business operators on the requisite knowledge in their field of operation to make them sustainable in business. It was to educate them on the formalization of their business operations and the registration requirements, processes and the benefits therein.
In a presentation at a forum of business owners and operators, the Wenchi BAC Head Miss Evelyn Yangnuu educated the participants on the difference between the Business Operation Permit (BOP) issued by the Assembly and registration by the Registrar General’s Department. She explained that although, both registrations required yearly renewal, the requirements and processes slightly differ. The Business Operation Permit issued by the Assembly gives recognition and authorisation of ones operations in the area. The Registrar General’s registration serves a national purpose categorised in Sole Proprietorship, Partnership, Company limited by Shares, Company limited by Guarantee, etc which includes churches, NGOs, hence the need for every entrepreneur to acquire both certificates, as a fulfilment of legal obligation. The BAC Head outlined the benefits of business registration such as uniqueness and ownership of busniess name, business security and protection, advertisement of goods and services, market penetration, contracts opportunities, accessibility to credit facilities and government interventions, legal backing, amongst others. She urged all to visit the BAC Office as many times as possible for any business consultation or enquiry to register their businesses, irrespective of the size and locations. She urged business owners and operators to acquire Business Registration Certificates and Permits before and during operations and ensure regular renewal for business security.


In an open forum section, participants underscored the need to regularly consult the BAC Office to acquire more knowledge and take the necessary steps to formalize their operations.
