The Gender Desk Officer of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly Ms. Juliet Adwoa Yeboah – Dei has carried out a public sensitization on Sexual Abuse and related issues.The radio programme, held in the company of the Municipal Information Officer Stanick Sofel Amuzu Kpodo, was part of efforts and measures of the Assembly to reduce Sexual Abuse and related offensive acts in the Municipality. The discussion covered related topics like Rape, Defilement and their health complications and implications on victims.
Partners in relationship must first check and disclose their health status to each other before sex, failure to do is Sexual Abuse.
Victims of the menace should report to the Police for arrest and persecution and ensure that the culprits are dealt with by the Law. Victims can also seek the support of the Gender Desk Officer of the Assembly. Family Heads and Community Leaders as well members of the public are admonished against cover up on culprits and intimidation of victims with threats. The menace is a felony which is non-negotiable for Alternative Disputes Resolution (ADR), except prosecution and full trial in the Court of Law. In other words, it is an offence under the Law for families or person other than the Law Court to intervene, determine and negotiate any form of compensation for victims of Sexual Abuse to accept under duress.
