JAMES BOATENG ADJUDGED 2021 OVERALL BEST FARMER

A 55 year old James Boateng from Abotareye in the Wenchi Municipality has been adjudged the Municipal Overall Best Farmer for the 37th Farmers’ Day Awards.
The Overall Best Farmer took home new Apsonic branded 150 Cubic Capacity Horse Power Tricycle (Motor King), Radio, 1 knapsack Sprayer, 2 pairs of wellington boots, 3 crocodile branded matchets, 2 bottles of Insecticide, 3 bottles of weedicide, 1 protective cloth, 2 pieces of GTP cloth and a Certificate.
In his acceptance remarks, James Obeng urged colleague farmers to work hard for national development. He advised all farmers to adhere to agricultural practices being taught by Agric Extension Officers. He asked for government’s continous support to make agriculture attractive. He was grateful to the Municipal Assembly and Agric Department for the award and his family for the support.
The Member of Parliament for Wenchi Alhaji Seidu Haruna who sponsored the purchase of the Motorcycle for the 1st Runner up presented the award to the beneficiary at the ceremony.
The 1st Runner up 60 year old Nana Kofi Afena from Nwoase was given new Apsonic branded 125 Cubic Capacity Horse Power Motorcycle, 1 knapsack sprayer, 2 pairs of wellington boots, 3 crocodile matchets, 1 protective cloth, 3 bottles of weedicide, 1 piece of GTP cloth, 2 bottles of insecticides and a Certificate.
The 2nd Runner up 45 year old Samuel Kwadwo Gyan took home 1 packet of Iron Sheet, 1 Samsung 32 inch LCD screen Tv, Radio, 1 knapsack sprayer, 2 pairs of wellington boots, 3 crocodile branded matchets, 1 protective cloth, 3 bottles of weedicide, 2 bottles of insecticides and a Certificate.
The programme also awarded many more farmers across the length and breadth of the Municipality for their toil and hard work from 22 award categories including Best Physically Challenged Farmer, Best Youth Farmer and Best Female Farmer Awards.
The National Farmers’ Day was instituted in 1984, to celebrate and honour farmers and fishers of this country for their hard work, selflessness and dedication to duty, which has enabled Ghana to build sufficiency in food production and increased export.
This year’s Municipal edition of the National Farmers’ Day was held at Ayigbe under the national theme: “Planting for Food & Jobs, Consolidating Food Systems in Ghana”.
