The Municipal Chief Executive for Wenchi Dr. Prince Kwakye Afriyie has called on the people, home and abroad, far and near, to join the fiercely rolled out development agenda for the Wenchi Municipality to put the area in an enviable position that all has been yearning for.
Dr. Prince Kwakye Afriyie bemoaned the seeming unquenchable appetite of influential indigenes who initiate and establish businesses and create employment opportunities in other areas outside Wenchi at the expense of the hardworking youth and indigenous people of Wenchi. He questioned the motive and motivation behind the practice, adding that those in the act only turn home when they encounter problems in their respective endeavors. Meanwhile, they are the very people who find faults on almost every development initiative in Wenchi without offering alternatives and lambast leaders with unnecessary comparison, when they refuse to come on board to develop the area, even upon invitation. They find delight and desire to praise the development of sister towns, cities and rundown the glory of their own home, forgetting that the people in those areas collaborated with their leaders. He cited the One District One Factory project in other districts as one that was established by their own indigenes. He asserted that the numerous infrastructural projects such as schools, health, toilet facilities and other businesses established by Wenchi indigenes in other areas would have put Wenchi in a world class position, if they were established here. “Nobody from elsewhere would leave their own town and develop Wenchi for us”, the MCE stressed. He advised and urged all to avail themselves to support leadership and together tackle the development challenges of the area, regardless of political, religious and socio-cultural differences.
The Municipal Chief Executive made the call at a ceremony of the National Board for Small Scale Industries/Business Advisory Centre (NBSSI/BAC) to present Certificates to trained Entrepreneurs in Wenchi.
Dr. Prince Kwakye Afriyie assured the Entrepreneurs of government’s business support packages including Microfinance & Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) to expand their businesses.
