The Municipal Chief Executive Alexander Obour Damoah has toured the Daily Market and the New Thursday Market in Wenchi to inspect and assess businesses flows and other economic activities in the market.
The visit afforded MCE the opportunity to familiarize and interact with the market women and traders as well as the public on the economic activities in the market. It was also to apprise himself with the challenges being encountered by the traders. The MCE and Team visited all sections of the market including the yam, maize, vegetable, second-hand clothing, domestic animals markets of the Thursday New Central Market. The Team also inspected structures, market sheds and other properteties of the Assembly in use by traders for business activities.
At the Daily Market, the Chief Executive visited the Abattoire and interacted with traders and meat sellers.
Earlier, the MCE held a meeting with Executives of Market Women & Traders Association where a number of concerns on challenges they face in their business operations were raised for redress. The Market Queen Nana Beatrice Bodom and her deputy Margaret Adwoa Yeboah reported a dozen unapproved routes in and out of the Market and lamented over huge sums of revenue being lost. She expressed concern on the poor lighting system in the market, thus called on the Assembly to fix street lights. It was observed that the market became muddy during rains. The traders appealed for provision of street light in the market, construction of fence wall for the market to improve security in the market.
Addressing traders in separate meetings, the Municipal Chief Executive assured them to address their concerns to improve the conditions in the market. He primised to provide a mechanized borehole and 5000 litres of Water Storage Tank for the Market. He urged the traders to pay their levies and market tolls to enable the Assembly carry out development projects in addressing their concerns.
