Engagement has been held on the Government’s Thirty Million Euros (€30m) Wenchi Water Supply System Project which began in 2021 after a sod cutting ceremony by His Excellency the President of the Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on 11th September, 2020.The Stakeholders engagement was jointly organised by the Consultants EAP Consult Limited, the Project Contractors Messrs ASPAC International of Belgium, the implementing Agency Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and the Wenchi Municipal Assembly.
Addressing Traditional Authorities, Religious Bodies, concerned Assembly Members, Heads of Departments/Units of the Assembly, concerned organisations/Companies and other key actors, the Municipal Chief Executive Hon Alexander Obour Damoah who earlier went on inspection tour at the Project sites a couple of times, expressed satisfaction on work done so far. He allayed the fears of the public and rather urged for cooperation with the Contractors to enable timely completion of the Project as scheduled. He was confident that upon completion of the Project, the acute water challenges in the Municipality particularly Wenchi township would be over.
The purpose of the Stakeholders Engagement was to provide updates on the status and stages of development and level of completion of the various components of the Project. The meeting was to provide the opportunity for the Project Contractors, Project Consultants and the Implementing Agency Ghana Water Company to explain the nature of the distribution pipeline works that will be carried out in the Wenchi township and some areas in the Municipality, the likely effects of these works on people occupying
locations in road reservations, and the most likely remedies.
The discussion was led by the Resident Engineer for the Project Mr Ransford Addei of EAP Consult Limited with a presentation on the scope of work on the Project on behalf of the Consultants and Contractors and. The Chief Manager of Lands & Estates for the Ghana Water Company (GWCL) Ms Perpetua Asomani who led a Team of Technical Officers explained the technical works involving the laying of the distribution pipelines.
The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) is implementing the government’s Water Supply System Project (WWSP) to improve the supply of portable water within the Wenchi Municipality. Physical works under the Project for construction of the dam commenced in 2021 and has since progressed steadily with most of the structures at the treatment plant currently at various stages of completion.
The Contractor, Messrs ASPAC International of Belgium is currently planning the
commencement of the laying of distribution pipelines along the roads/streets of the
Municipality and mostly within the utility reservations of the roads. The stage of the Project has necessitated a stakeholder engagement with key actors to discuss the progress of work done so far and the next equally important stage to execute.
