ASSEMBLY MEMBERS UNANIMOUSLY ELECTS PRESIDING MEMBER (PM)

Assembly Members of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly have elected a Presiding Member for the Assembly.
The newly elected Presiding Member Hon. Henry Ameworwor is the Assembly Member for Pramaso Twesease Electoral Area at Nkyeraa in the Wenchi Municipality. He obtained 100% votes of all the 41 Members who were present and voted. The successful election was a fulfillment of his long standing desire and a dream come true as he continually pursued this ambition for the past 12 years.
The PM was sworn in by the Supervising High Court Judge of Sunyani His Lordship Justice Matey-Teye Gabriel and assisted by the High Court Judge of Wenchi Her Ladyship Justice Mariam Sinare
The election was supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC) headed by the Municipal Director Madam Christiana Opoku and Team assisted by the Regional EC Director.
The occasion was graced by the Regional Minister Hon Lawyer Joseph Addae Akwaboah, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Regional Executives led by the Regional Chairman Hon. Ambassador Kwadwo Nyamekye Maarfo and Constituency Executives led by the Chairman Mr Mohammed Ansumah Dallas as well the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Executives led by the Secretary Mr Suwari Ibrahim Abdul-Rahman.
Addressing the august House comprising Assembly Members, Traditional Authorities, Religious Bodies, Political Parties, Heads of Departments/Units, Representatives of people of the Constituency and other Interest Groups, the Presiding Member (PM) Hon Henry Ameworwor assured the people of his readiness to serve and work hard work and collectively to improve the image of the Assembly, ensure proper recognition for Assembly Members, effective Stakeholder Consultations, lobby for development commit towards the development course of the Assembly. He called all for their support.
As by Law established, the Local Government Act 2016 (936) as amended;
There shall be a Presiding Member of each District Assembly who shall be elected by the members of the Assembly from among their number.
The Presiding Member shall be elected by at least a two-thirds majority of all the members of the District Assembly.
The Presiding Member shall hold office for a term of two years and is eligible for re-election subject to subsection
The Presiding Member shall convene and preside at meetings of the District Assembly and perform other functions prescribed by law and the Standing Orders of the District Assembly.
