BUSINESS IN BOX (BIZ BOX) PROJECT LAUNCHED

The Business in Box Project popularly known as Biz Box which is an initiative of the Government of Ghana in collaboration with the Master Card Foundation spearheaded by the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) has been launched in Wenchi.
The Project seeks to create dignified and fulfilling job opportunities for 250,000 youth aged 15 years to 35 years across the country with special focus on Women and Persons with Disabilities (PWD’s). Under the Project, the government bears and sponsors the cost of Apprenticeship for interested persons to learn any trade of their choice. The Master Craftsmen are engaged to sign onto an agreement/Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government to train supposed beneficiaries in many skills such as Tailoring & Dressmaking, Hairdressing, Masonry & Tiling, Kete Weaving, Agribusiness, Electronic & Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Welding & Fabrication, Glass & Door Works, etc.
Addressing Chiefs, Religious Bodies, Artisans/Trade Associations, some Assembly Members, concerned Heads of Departments/Units and other stakeholders in a speech delivered on his behalf, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon Alexander Obour Damoah explained that the Biz Box Project was not only about providing resources; it was also about nurturing dreams, creating opportunities and building a resilient economic foundation for the people. He added that the Project was a proof of the Government’s commitment to supporting the youth, through skills development and also improving the local economic development of our communities. With this Project, the entrepreneurial journey to economic success will be simplified, offering access to start-up kits, access to market, youth skills development, youth social network and strengthen our institutions to provide regulatory support such as Business and Product Certification, amongst others. The goal is not only to assist and create jobs but to also scale and sustain the jobs created to ensure long-term success. The MCE acknowledged that Wenchi has rich talents and ideas, and the Business in a Box Project was a medium to harness the potential of the good people of the Municipality. He urged all to join us in making the Biz Box Project a success and embrace the opportunities the Project offers, work together to build a vibrant, resilient and prosperous local business ecosystem. Together, let us create enabling environment and sustainable future for the growth and development our local businesses.
The Municipal Head of the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) of the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) Ms Evelyn Yangnuu who led the Sensitization with a presentation at the Forum urged Stakeholders to help register many more interested persons within the age bracket onto the programme to help achieve the expected results.
The Sensitization Forum was meant to sensitize Stakeholders and involve them in the Project. The role of the Stakeholders was to enable them equally educate, inform, mobilize their constituents to register and sign onto the programme and also monitor and ensure full participation of the people to its successful end.
