WENCHI COMMEMORATES GHANA’S 67TH INDEPENDENCE DAY ANNIVERSARY

   The Wenchi Municipal Assembly has commemorated the 67th Independence Day Anniversary Celebration under the theme “Our Democracy, Our Pride” with a clarion call on Ghanaian citizens to protect and promote the country’s democracy as it was not won on a silver platter but through the struggle, hard work, sacrifice, dedication, toils, blood and sweat of our fore bearers.
In his Anniversary Speech, the Municipal Chief Executive Hon Alexander K. Obour Damoah emphasized the call on citizens to exercise our moral and political duties and responsibilities to nurture, protect, secure and sustain our achievements for the past years as Independence imposes on us the obligations to conduct our own economic and social affairs, construct our own society and manage our own resources, contribute to policy making and elect our representatives. The MCE underscored the enviable history of the successful political transitions, a vibrant Press Freedom, active Civil Society Organisations, advocating for decent political campaign, respect for electoral laws to foster Security and unity before, during, and after the upcoming December General Elections to prove our democratic credentials to the world. The Chief Executive cautioned students and the youth against unguided statements and behaviours that cast a slur on the integrity of highly placed persons in society.
As usual, the Anniversary Day Celebration was accompanied with Match Past by School pupils, students, Cardet Corps and Voluntary groups. In the Match Past at the Primary School category, Twinkle Star Foundation won the 1st Position, Wenchi Methodist “A” won the 2nd Position and Wenchi Methodist “B” won the 3rd Position. At the JHS category R/C SVD was 1st, Wenchi Methodist ‘C’ was 2nd and Wenchi Methodist ‘B’ became 3rd. In the SHS category, Nkyeraa SHS won the 1st position, Istiqaama SHS became 2nd and Koase SHTS was 3rd. The Most Discipline School Category was won by Akrobi M/A JHS. Deserving individual students and Schools were equally awarded in over 40 many other categories such Best WASSCE Candidates, Best BECE Candidates, Contestants in the Anniversary Quiz and Debate, among others. There were cultural dis play by the CNC Cultural Troupe and the Dagaaba Cultural Dance and Wenchi SHS Brass Band Music. The Wenchi SHS (WESS), Koase SHTS, Istiqaama SHS Cadet Corps displayed their prowess.
This year’s Anniversary was graced by Ghanaian Gospel Musician and International Evangelist Diana Asamoah, the Political Parties Reps, Traditional Authority, Religious Bodies, Heads of Departments/Units, Institutions, Schools, Parents/Guardians and the general public.
