WENCHI ASSEMBLY PROVIDES LIVELIHOOD SUPPORT TO PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED PERSONS.

The Wenchi Municipal Assembly has provided livelihood support to persons living with disability (PLWD) in the Municipality.

In all, 61 persons with disability benefited from the support. 23 persons were given livelihood support items such as fridges, wheels, sewing machines, amongst others, worth thousands of Ghana Cedis. 17 persons were given cheques to take care of their Educational and Health needs. The rests were given bank cheques as Seed Capital to start businesses and establish themselves.

Presenting the items and cheques to the beneficiaries, the Municipal Chief Executive Alexander Obour Damoah advised them to ensure judicious and appropriate use of the funds and items to achieve the intended purpose of improving their lives. He cautioned the beneficiaries against consumption and over reliance on benevolent individuals and organisations for livelihood. He charged them to live responsible life as that would carve good image and accord them societal respect and honour. The Chief Executive said government’s commitment to improve their living condition was unwavering hence the increment of the Disability Fund from 2% to 3%.
The Social Welfare Officer Abdulai Jimba said his outfit would continue to care for the physically challenged, destitute and the underprivileged.
The Vice Chairman of Association of Physically Challenged Richard Ofosu Ameyaw, on behalf of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation and appealed to the public to show love and care and be concerned with the plight of the underprivileged.
