MCE ADDRESSES 1ST SESSION OF THE 8TH ASSEMBLY

In his Sessional Address to Assembly Members at the maiden meeting of the 1st Session of the 8th Assembly, the Municipal Chief Executive Dr Prince Kwakye Afriyie gave vivid account of activities and measures implemented in the Municipality during the outbreak of the novel Corona virus pandemic recorded in Ghana, to prevent and contain its spread in the area.

He began with the distribution of Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) such as complete veronica buckets with stands, liquid soaps, hand sanitizers, paper tissues, nose masks, thermometer guns, waste bins, etc. He disclosed the financial support from the central government through the Ministry of Local Government & Rural Development as timely and purposeful in the fight against the disease, especially in the aspects of Monitoring, Enforcement, Logistics, Press briefings, Sensitization trainings, supports for Sub-committees in the formulation and implementation of COVID-19 policy directives. Other measures include the procurement of rakes, wheel barrows, brooms, shovels, Wellington boots, nose masks improving the logistical base of the Environmental Health Unit. Construction of 3 mechanized boreholes and provision of poly tanks at Nchiraa, Subinso No.2 and Tromeso, extension of water with poly tanks to Wenchi New and Old Markets, Akrobi and Nkonsia Markets, Veronica buckets with stands for use in our markets have also been effected.

The Chief Executive announced receipt of funds from the District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT) Secretariat for passing the 2017 Functional Organization Assessment Tool (FOAT) to provide projects in the Municipality. A 3 Bedroom Doctor’s Bungalow has been earmarked for construction at Subinso No.2 to actualize the concept of upgrading Health Centres. Dual desks would also be provided for schools.

The MCE urged Assembly Members to help educate their respective communities to continually adhere to COVID-19 protocols and champion the “Stay Home” policy to stay safe.

He described the ongoing new voter registration exercise as peaceful with support from the Military and the cooperation of the people.

He announced a 2 day Orientation Training Workshop for Assembly Members in building their capacity to deal with issues of the House and attend to the needs of their people.

In accordance with Sections 23(1) and 23(4) of the Local Governance Act 936 of 2016, the Executive Committee (EXECO) of the Municipal Assembly, Public Relations & Complaints Committee (PRCC) and other Sub-committees were constituted.

The MCE presented the working document of the Sub-Committee structures of the 1st Session of the 8th Assembly to the PM.
