A Taskforce of the Municipal Assembly in collaboration to enforce and ensure compliance of guidelines for cashew operations in the Wenchi Municipality has been inaugurated.
The Taskforce, as part of its mandates, was to monitor the movement and transport of cashew produce from the area. It was also to ensure that the approved rates, levies and revenues payable to the Assembly are fully paid as required. The Taskforce has the mandate to stop the indiscriminate transport of cashew produce/nuts from the Municipality without following the due process and guidelines governing its operations. As part of the guidelines, Revenue Barriers would be mounted at some vantage points and routes of the Municipality. The Taskforce consists of the Security Services, selected units and Departments of the Assembly and led by the Chairman of the Works Sub-Committee of the Municipal Assembly Mr James Oduro.
The inauguration ceremony was held during one of the Assembly’s serial meetings with Stakeholders. The stakeholders led by the Municipal Assembly include the Traditional Council, Cashew Buyers and Exporters Association, GPRTU Cargo Branch, PROTOA, selected Assembly Members, Security Services, amongst others.
