WENCHI ASSEMBLY ORGANISES CLEAN – UP EXERCISE

The Wenchi Municipal Assembly with support from the people has organised a general clean – up exercise in the Municipality.
The Exercise was part of activities to rid the Municipality of filth and ensure proper sanitation to keep the environment and the people clean and safe from diseases.
Addressing a well attended gathering of Religious Bodies, Traditional Authorities, Organizations, Political Parties, Associations, Transport Unions, individuals and other identifiable groups of the public, the Municipal Chief Executive Alexander Obour Damoah called on the people to support his administration in the formulation and implementation of policy initiatives for the development of Wenchi. He assured of his commitment and readiness to collaborate with Civil Society, Traditional Authorities, Religious Bodies and the people. He said the Clean Up Exercise would help improve sanity and ensure public health so everybody should get involved.
Speaker after speaker pledged support to help develop the Municipality.
Chocked gutters and drains were disilted, streets, market centres, lorry parks and other areas were cleaned.
The Clean-up Exercise began from 6:00 am to 10:00 am on Saturday 29th Jan 2022. Groups and the people converged at the Jubilee Park. All shops/stores, businesses and workplaces were closed during the Exercise from 6:00 am to 10: 00 am. All food vendors, traders and transport operators including tricycles (Pragyia/Motor king) were prevented from operating during the Exercise, except special/ emergency cases. All Business owners and operators were charged to clean their frontage and space they occupied during the Exercise. Some members of the public joined the Exercise with working tools from home such as wheel barrows, shovels, brooms, rakes, brushes, cutlasses, hoes, hand gloves, face masks to complement those provided by the Assembly. A Taskforce was formed to monitor and ensure total compliance of directives and full participation of members of the public.
The Exercise was carried out simultaneously in all the Electoral Areas by Assembly Members, Unit Committees, Community/Opinion Leaders and the people in the Municipality.
Earlier, the MCE and members of the Sanitation Planning Committee embarked on door – to – door public awareness and sensitization and engaged business owners and operators to solicit their participation.
