THIRD SESSION OF THE 8TH ASSEMBLY OF WENCHI MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HOLDS ITS FIRST GENERAL MEETING

The Wenchi Municipal Assembly has held its 1st Ordinary Meeting of the 3rd Session of the 8th Assembly.

In his Welcome Address to commence the Business of the House, the Presiding Member James Kwasi Oduro Asare who was full of gratitude for presiding over his first meeting after his election, urged Assembly Members to contribute their quota to the development of the Municipality.

In his Sessional Address to the General Assembly, the Municipal Chief Executive Alexander Obour Damoah presented three Local Economic Development projects for consideration and implementation; Rehabilitation of Asubingya Irrigation 500acre Site to produce all year-round fresh vegetables using Public Labour Intensive Work (PLIW). Procurement and supply of 1, 200 pieces of Beehive boxes for the production of natural honey. Nursing and distribution of 350, 000 Cashew Seedlings to support local farmers and government flagship programme (PERD). Cultivation of 200 acres of Maize Plantation using Public Labour Intensive Works at Branam State Farms

The projects are expected to engage over 200 beneficiaries and create more than 3, 000 direct and indirect jobs for the teeming unemployed youth in the Municipality. The projects would be funded from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), Ghana Productive Safety Net Project (GPSNP), Internally Generated Fund (IGF) and other Donor Sources.

The MCE announced that Wenchi Municipal has been selected again for Phase II of the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project (GPSNP) after 136 acres of degraded communal lands were rehabilitated with unskilled Labour Force of 217 in the first phase from March 2020 to April 2022.Some Feeder Roads for selected communities Tromeso – Nyanpongnase, Anyimu – Kokosu and Buoku – Ahwene have been proposed for construction

Presenting the Executive Committee (ExeCo) Report to the General Assembly for consideration, the Chief Executive asked for the construction of Market Sheds for Amponsakrom, Boadan, Awisa, Mallam-Ayigbe and Nwoase. The General Assembly approved reports from the Executive Committee (ExeCo) amongst other proposals for implementation; sustain and extend the use of dLRev Electronic Billing System to all the Zonal Councils to collect revenue data, distribute bills and collect revenue from rate payers. Intensify public sensitization among rate payers on the new billing system and the need to promptly. Construct market sheds at Amponsakrom, Boadan, Awisa, Malam-Ayigbe and Nwoase. Construct lockable stores at the frontage of the Wenchi old lorry station with funds from DPAT-5 (DACF – RFG). Arrange Public Private Partnership (PPP) with individuals/organization to construct Lockable stores adjacent the old lorry station. Upgrade Nwoase CHPS compound to Health Center. Continue the construction of Fire Service Post, Police Post at Nchiraa and Subinso Police Post. Regularize the indiscipline activities of underage and unauthorized fares by Tricycle (Okada and Pragya) riders. Ensure proper managerial practices by Public Toilet Operators. Construct Public Toilets for Ayigbe Electoral Area and Nchiraa market activities. Support communities to house the Cassava Processing Equipment given them by the Business Advisory Centre (BAC). Tackle stray animal fuss. Fast track the construction of KG Block at Imam Seidu School. Engage contractors to complete outstanding works on Town Roads. Rehabilitate and furnish the existing Assembly Hall and the Conference Room. Complete all outstanding projects in the Municipality to serve the intended purpose. Inspect 10littre cans of measurement.
