PROF.GYAN –BAFFOUR APPLAUDS MINISTRY OF INFORMATION OVER TOWN HALL MEETINGS.
The Member of Parliament for Wenchi Constituency and Ministry for Planning, Prof. George Gyan-Baffour has stated that the Town Hall meetings were good platforms for government to explain to the citizenry its programmes and objectives aimed at improving their livelihood .
He said this, when he addresses hundreds of participants at the 2018 Town Hall meeting organized by the Ministry of Information in collaboration with the Wench Municipal Assembly.
He recalled that, when Town Hall meetings commenced under former President John Agyekum kuffour it contributed immensely to the formulation of some policies from the district level to national inuring to the benefit of the people .he mentioned that it was in that same delight that Nana Addo led government had re-introduced it.
He applauded the Ministry of Information for the ongoing public fora in all Districts, Municipals and Metropolitans levels to bring the people up to speed on major government policies and programs and to obtain feedback from the citizenry for the development of the nation.
On his part, the Municipal Chief Executive of Wenchi Hon.Dr.Prince Kwakye Afriyie disclosed that, Koase Senior High and technical School will soon benefit from the model school concept by government.
He said, as part of the programme, the school will be benefitting from a number of infrastructure projects such as dormitories, lecture Halls among other which will enhance teaching and learning eventually.
He noted that, since education was very dear to the heart of the government it posted 130 trained teachers to Wenchi Municipal to boost the teacher to child ratio.
Dr. Kwakye Afriyie mentioned that, an initiative of the Member of Parliament Professor Gyan-Baffour known as the Prof. Project ,aimed at introducing education in the hard to reach areas have seen about 11 communities benefiting from the said facility.
He explained that, the project was a Pre-school concept introduced to enable children in under privileged communities to start education .He continued that, this will also support parents in such communities to get a place to send their kids in order to concentrate on their farming activities rather than leaving them home.
On Sanitation, and Waste Management, he mentioned that, the Clean Wenchi Project was an innovation by the current Assembly to keep the municipality clean at all times.
The MCE further added that, the Assembly was in collaboration with Faith Based Organizations to regularly clean the Municipality and called on all Assembly Members in the Area to emulate same in their respective Electoral Areas.
He informed Participants that, the Assembly has acquired a vast land at Akrobi in Wenchi as a waste disposal site for both solid and liquid waste.
He assured the person that, the issue of water rationing and its related crisis is soon going to be a thing of the past as a 30 million euros treatment plant was to be established on the Subin River to supply portable treated water to several communities in the Municipality and its environs. He said when it is done it will help in reducing water related ailments.
He further called on Nananom to come together to support government’s effort in developing Wenchiman. He said development thrived on a concerted effort and as a result needed the support of all to make it attainable in Wenchi.
The Executive Secretary of the Brong Ahafo Regional Peace Council Mr. Sualah Abdallah also called on Nananom to unite and support leadership to develop Wenchi.
