WENCHI: PHYSICAL PLANNING DEPARTMENT ENGAGES ASSEMBLY MEMBERS

  The Municipal Physical & Spacial Planning Department has held stakeholder engagement with Assembly Members, Heads of Departments and Stakeholders.
The engagement was to amongst other reasons explain the technicalities surrounding land use, rezoning/re-classification and encroachment.
The Stakeholder engagement was part of efforts to address the growing demands and concerns of the public on land related issues.
Responding to concerns of Assembly Members and stakeholders at the 1st meeting of the 4th Session of the 8th General Assembly, the Municipal Officer for the Physical and Spacial Planning Department Honorata Nsomah Akanzige noted that some causes of Land Encroachment land disputes include; delay in developing acquired land, personal interest on the part of land owners and developers, lack of monitoring on the part of Authorities, lack of proper records and documentation by land owners, bureaucratic processes leading to delay in issuance of documents.
The Physical Planning Officer also bemoaned Chieftaincy disputes in some areas as another major challenge hindering effective land administration, land documentations, land use and development.
She called for periodic Revision of Scheme (Layouts) ahead of planning to catch up with physical developments on the ground to curb land dispute and encroachment related issues.
Ms Honorata Nsomah Akanzige further stressed on the need for stronger stakeholder collaboration and cooperation to address the growing demands and challenges bedeviling development as regards physical and spacial planning in the Municipality.
