A project to encourage and engage women in the operation of farm equipment has been launched in Wenchi.
The project seeks to empower women through training to operate, maintain/repair and manage all agricultural equipment including tractors. Out of 60 participants registered for the programme, 9 were from Wenchi.
Speaking at the launch of the 2nd Phase of the continental project dubbed “Women in the Driving Seat (WiDS)”, the Deputy Minister for Agriculture in charge of Horticulture George Oduro who was the Special Guest inspired women to have confidence in themselves and prove their capabilities and competence to rub shoulders with the masculine gender. He explained that women have what it takes to run the state of affairs when given the opportunity. Hon George Oduro expressed government’s commitment to give equal opportunity to both men and women for national development and cohesion by creating the enabling environment.
The Municipal Chief Executive Hon Dr. Prince Kwakye Afriyie encouraged indigenes to avail themselves and take advantage of government flagship programmes.
