
The purpose of the Workshop was to amongst others; to identify, analyse and asses the Climate Change vulnerabilities and it impacts in the Wenchi Municipality. Also, develop Climate Change Adaptation Plan as cogent proposed solutions to tackle Climate Change vulnerabilities and reduce the risks and the devastating effects. The Stakeholders Workshop was also to prepare an Action Plan for execution to tackle the menace. Stakeholders at the Workshop were put in groups in accordance with their professional background and status to identify and draw out proposed policy measures. Group Reports were presented. The Stakeholders included Traditional Leaders, Religious Leaders, selected Departments/Units of the Assembly, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Civil Society, selected Emergency Service Organisations, Women Groups, Youth Groups, amongst others.
A Team of Resourced Persons and Environmental Scientists Dr Frank Baffour-Ata and Team Leader Professor Philip Antwi-Agyei from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST), Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana West Africa.
The Resource Persons who took the participants through the thematic areas emphasized the devastating impact and vulnerabilities of Climate Change on the socio-economic lives of the people and the stifling development stress the country faces.
The Government of Ghana (GoG) through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology & Innovation (MESTI) has been charged to coordinate Ghana’s Adaptation Plan the National Sectoral and sub-national levels. As part of the process, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with support from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the United Environment is currently supporting the Wenchi Municipal Assembly including three (3) other selected beneficiary Metropolitan/Municipal/District Assemblies to develop their own Adaptation Plan for effective climate change action and resilience.
